- Baldur's Gate 3: How To Get Into The Toll House Secret Door
This might seem like a case for Find Familiar, but this doesn’t seem to work. You can use Mage Hand to get through the Burrow Hole and into the basement of the Toll House, but the hand can’t do a whole lot by itself. A more robust - yet demanding - solution is to take a small character (Halfling or Gnome) and cast Reduce on them, rendering them small enough to fit down the burrow. They still can’t get through the locked door, but they can loot everything on this side of the locked door, provided they can actually carry it all.
First Floor[edit edit source]
Baldur’s Gate 3 is replete with secret treasures and zones, yet acquiring all of them in a single playthrough can be elusive due to the diverse choices and abilities that shape your party’s capabilities. Nonetheless, the desire to uncover as many hidden treasures as possible is entirely reasonable. When you’re exploring the areas to the north of the map in Act 1, just after crashing the ship, you might find the Toll House. It’s connected to one of the companions in the game, which is also connected to another companion. I’m talking about Karlach of course, who you’ll see first south of the toll house. There is another safe (Lockpicking DC 30) at the north wing that contains no gold.

The interior is occupied by some paladins of Tyr - Anders, Tryna and Cyrel, the last of which is also a merchant, although she sells little of interest. If you talk to Anders you can start the aforementioned quest Hunt the Devil, but these three are otherwise uninteresting. Gerringothe Thorm can be found on the south wing of the top floor searching for gold. Reithwin Tollhouse is a location found in the south eastern area of Reithwin Town, directly south of the Mason's Guild. It will be the first location you reach if you arrive from across the central bridge south west of the Ruined Battlefield. Having your party spread around is certainly a strong strategy, largely thanks to the Visages doing various forms of AOE elemental damage to your party.

Now, in case one of your characters does accidentally trigger a trap, it won’t go off. Pass the perception check to open the iron door on the left to reach the Stone Chairs Puzzle room. There is a secret armory in the basement (Ornate Wooden Hatch) of the Paladin’s Headquarters in The Risen Road. This article will guide you on how to solve the Secret Armory Puzzle to reach the basement. All in all it’s easier to just find the Toll Collector’s Key and go through the locked door, so that’ll be the approach we assume you take.
This time, we present a straightforward guide to navigating your way into the secret room in Tolls House. To gain entry to the Toll House, you’ll need the Toll key, conveniently located on the south side of The Risen Road. Having already met them, and not having Karlackh in my party, they simply ignored me and seemed to have no interest in the basement, the hatch to which was unlocked. This means you can enter the basement (via the hatch, pictured) without any issue.
The last room before the Toll House Vault will have two throne chairs and a large table placed invertedly in the center. There seems to be no way to open the Toll House vault door, and you can’t use Misty Step to reach the other side, either. Now comes the part where you need to solve a nifty little puzzle to unlock the Toll House secret door in Baldur’s Gate 3. While the basement itself can be easy to find, there is a vault door in the Tollhouse Basement that requires players to solve a puzzle. That is why we are here, showing you how to enter the tollhouse basement and solve the vault puzzle to open the secret door. In the game Baldurs Gate 3, you can visit the Tax Collector's Building (Toll House) from the The Risen Road location.
There are plenty of magic items around the place, scattered around in locked safes and chests. The visages typically have around health, depending on difficulty, and they tend to be easy to hit, despite the distant darkness making it harder to hit them somewhat. Each one also contributes around 100 HP as a buff on the boss’ status bar. You can see an example of the boss fight where she loses 300 max health in a turn from my team, thanks to killing three of the Visages between two characters. There really doesn't seem to be anything there, which is really weird for a big room at the end of a bunch of secret passages. Just beyond the entry point to the secret chamber is a pressure plate on the floor.

Tollhouse
There are also a lot of traps down here, so ideally you’ll shrink somebody with the ability to spot and disarm traps. Aside from the quest that takes place here, there’s a cellar where much more of interest can be found. You can reach this cellar by going through an Ornate Wood Hatch, located in the same room as Anders, but further progress will be impeded by a locked door.
Baldur's Gate 3: How To Get Into The Toll House Secret Door
The combination requires a passive Perception check (DC 18) to reveal a note (PLEASE READ!) on the nearby wall. Most of these items come from various forms of locked chests throughout the building. You can also access the Heavy Oak Door to get to the basement of the Toll House. In there, you can find some more notes on the ruler of the Toll House, along with more confiscated silver items and gold for you to take for yourself as your spoils of war. Ideally, you want to position your party in a way where you can track the Visages as they float around the Tollhouse. Once you have your party in favorable advantages, pre-apply your non-aggressive concentration buffs like Bless, then have your tank character, or whoever is bait to fight Gerringothe.
While the main story in this section is fairly straightforward, there’s a wealth of secrets and sidequests to uncover. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a handy checklist to help guide you through the massive Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3. I found myself completing the goblin camp/save Halsin quesline before even reaching the toll house and northern parts of the map. Since I hadnt had a lot of dialogue between me and the other party members, I missed out on really any romance options at the celebration.
Near the ladder to the roof, there is a plaque labelled as 'Seized Inventory' that requires a passive Perception check (DC 5) to reveal. To access this area you can either destroy the vines, or climb the ladder onto the roof, Perception check (DC 10) to find some rotten boards, and break through to access the room below. Inside the room is a Greataxe +1 and a chest (Lockpicking DC 14) that contains the Fireheart. If you got inside through the roof, you can leave by jumping through the window. Having another character place a crate on the roof gives you a visible surface to jump to from a couple crates inside, after some jockeying for a workable positioning.
They’ll often be somewhat near her, and the distant ones seem to get closer to her as the fight starts. So, just keep your party spread somewhat within the meter range of the boss to get the distant visages, while the other party members stay close to the boss and can hit the closer visages to her. Ideally, also have a tanky character be the one in close range of the boss, as she can deal some pretty high spell damage. So here you can place one heavy item (1) and (2) on each one of these stone chairs, e.g., by taking the large vases present on the table. Similarly, you can also use your party members to sit on each of these chairs as well. So once you spot a trap, you can place a box or barrel to block the poison gas vents.
In our guide we explain how to get to the basement of the building with paladins led by Anders, as well as how to open the doors in the basement and how to get to the secret room by solving the puzzle. The place will be trapped, so you need to be careful while you are exploring it and gathering the loot. There are multiple traps in the area, so walk slowly to pass perception checks and reveal them all. If a character fails a perception check, switch to a different one and try passing it with them. You’ll find the Toll House (1) by heading north from the Blighted Village, then heading east once you've crossed the bridge, and finally north where you found Karlach. Some players will burn through a game such as Baldur’s Gate 3 as quickly as they can, following the story and then quickly moving on to the next game.
Once you get to the Tollhouse Basement, you can use the key to unlock the Vault door in BG3. This should then cause the “wall” to slide and reveal the hidden chamber behind it. In the basement, you can use Toll Collector’s key to open the door or use Knock Spell to open the door. With that out of the way, here are the major things you’ll want to make sure you do in each area of Act 2. We’ve listed Last Light Inn first as the game railroads you to that location first.
If all party members failed the Perception check, you have to use a Waypoint to leave the room. With her sad girl ending, her visages also die, and the curse of the Reithwin Tollhouse is lifted. Now you can freely explore the Tollhouse and look for all the other loot, gold and rewards around the place. Also, don’t worry about cheesing the boss this way, as you still get around 1160 XP for completing the Dialogue checks anyway.
Someone, or something heavy, needs to sit in both of those throne chairs to trigger the mechanism and open the secret vault door. As the Paladins have no business with the cellar, you can freely explore the Tollhouse Basement. Furthermore, you will find the Toll House Vault there, but the door leading to it will be locked. To find that key, you will need to exit the tollhouse and go south towards the river.
